FW400 fast enough?

Is Firewire 400 fast enough to do recording to an external drive (7200 RPM drive)? I know USB2 is faster but I have heard FW is more consistent. Only talking 1-2 tracks simultaneously.

I think usb2 is technically faster, but FW400 has a faster bus speed. I used to use all FW but switching over to USB (slowly) because apple seems to be giving up on firewire.

Firewire is faster. It's no contest, sometimes twice as fast.
Apple won't drop firewire entirely IMO until USB 3, and USB 3 is supposed to be backwards compatible with 2. My method is to buy firewire drives that also do USB2, which is dead easy since 99% do.
