The complex I live in has about 70 apartments arranged in rectangular shape with half the apartments facing a courtyard with a pool, hot tub, and large clubhouse. The residence are pretty diverse ranging from young friends to full families with kids and most nationalities are represented.

I came home to a flyer on my door (and all doors) that said next Saturday there will be a DJ spinning House music next to the pool from 1 - 8 and it's an open invite for all to enjoy. This really intrigues me.

First off, as much as a lot of people on here love House music, here it generally isn't considered the music preference or the "every man's" music of choice for an open invite public party catering to all age groups. In SJ it's something that you have to seek out. It's not something you would just run into at any bar or club. So I am surprised that is the chosen, approved, and advertised genre of music.

Second, of course in some of our nightly drunken surveys of the land my roommate and I have had that "we should totally DJ a party down there" but didn't think it would fly by either the management or the residence.

Third, we've thought about how a lot of people really don't get to know their neighbors, and after getting robbed by possibly our neighbors or their associates, we're even more reluctant to do this. But also there usually needs to be some situation present to meet people. The days of knocking on doors for sugar are over. So this could be just the opportunity to get to know the neighbors.

Lastly, I assume this means there's at least one other House DJ somewhere in the complex and it isn't some random DJ calling apartment complexes asking if he can spin there. So some common ground has already been established.

I even lock the door when I go to the laundry room 30 feet away for 2 minutes.

Our place is so set up for an after party type thing, but like I eluded to, trusting the neighbors is an issue. Hope the alcohol doesn't cause me to make a wrong decision on that one.

I'll be sure to let you all know how our little rave for the financially challenged and geographically lazy goes. Unless I'm too lazy to even show up to it. There's a single flight of stairs involved. And opening several doors. I'll have to see if I'm up for it.

Yeah I'll have to find out if this is a one off or what the background story is, but also like many people on here we chat about music all day but when we go out into the real world most people don't know what the hell we're going on about. I'm a little past my prime and interest in joining a scene so it would be cool to meet some other people that are local within feet that are into this type thing.

I always like when an alpha male (not saying you are one) is "going to help get you laid". They usually start with that intention but at some point their alpha kicks in, they end up cock blocking you, and then letting you know how you fucked it all up.
