I really like the way he puts things into perspective by comparing actions such as buying car insurance and the Manhattan Project. It's not always an easy thing to explain the reasons "why we should" do something, so I was impressed with how he made it look easy.
Very cool video (but very dramatic title to the thread

)

Great video.
Any truly advanced civilization would never pursue? or indulge in technologies that would damage his living environment, but we do. (Tranlation: Don't s**t where you eat!)
We aren't civilized or advanced at all.

You shouldn't believe everything you see on Youtube FFS!
You can't change human nature by government, not even in North Korea.
Regarding climate change (lack of) debate. Follow the money. Who is making money? Who is worse off?

“The common enemy of humanity is man.
In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up
with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming,
water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill. All these
dangers are caused by human intervention, and it is only through
changed attitudes and behavior that they can be overcome.
The real enemy then, is humanity itself."

I have one.
How about you rename this to "the most boring and unengaging 10 minute video of which only 2 minutes you'll ever bear to see" ?

I couldn't stand how distorted the right channel was. Recording fail, so I left.

humanity is the strangest animal, we've come to the point where we won't even make a decision on any issue
if we detect that someone is on a paticular (side) in most debates these days the first thing that pops out of someones mouth is usualy 'what side are you on' nobody is really even talking about issues, they dig through the interweb looking for links to prove that 'your point' is attatched to a side. can you imagine if you were walking down the street and a thug jumped out from behind a patch of thuggy bushes with a gun and the first thing you thought about was which side of the gun issue he's on, whether he supports the nra/gun manufacturers or those who support a ban on automatic weapons, instead of someone is about to bust a cap in my ass?
stupidity kills

I like this. So really nothing matter because we all die. When you die nothing matters. When your alive your going to die, eventually, so fuck it. Just fuck the dude up with the gun and your good. Kill or be killed.

sad but true but sad, I just realized this the other day it occurred to me that every single discussion I've been in in the last month was just an exercise in getting down to business and proving the existence of a 'side', links to a 'side', evidence of a 'side' the actual issues were left untouched.

hippies talking about other hippies talking about science doesn't make the topic science. that kid's retarded. pick any stock and graph it over the last month, the last year and the last decade. data sets depend on the range of data you have. our 0.0000001% of existence is as insignificant as we are. if the planet wants to kill us, it will. so take a chill pill and stop preaching on youtube....preach on forums instead

The video is nonsense, because it glibly glosses over the degree of the "economic harm" in the upper left corner of the chart.
So let me sketch out an alternative scenario: Suppose human-caused global warming is real, and in order to avoid a planetary catastrophe, it is necessary to kill 90% of the world's population witin the next decade. Would you be willing to argue for that course of action? Or would you prefer to hope for one of the following two possibilities:
1) The people who believe that human-caused global warming is real are mistaken; or
2) Human-caused global warming is real, but there is a technological solution, yet undiscovered, that makes it unnecessary to kill 90% of the world's population.
Let's put it another way. Suppose I were to tell you that there is a crazed psychopath stalking you, and he is going to capture you in the next ten minutes and inflict unspeakable torture on you. Suppose further that I were to say that the only way you can prevent this from happening is by killing yourself.
How strong would my evidence need to be before you would be willing to kill yourself rather than bet on the possibility that I'm mistaken?
Now remember that the same people who are now screaming about global warming were publishing articles 30 years ago predicting that another ice age would start soon, and remember also that actual climate has not been doing a very good job of following the various models since they've been published; and you'll see a good reason to avoid making yourself crazy about a problem that, if real, is probably unsolvable

that's the worst example I have ever read on the interwebs
don't even know where to start...so I won't
"say you have a choice between banging and elephant and a giraffe, and the only way to get out of either is to bang a turtle"
