Ableton Forum

I'm very new to recording on a computer. I recently purchased Ableton Live 8 (not the suite version). I'm using an Endirol FA-66 Firewire interface and a M-Audio Axiom 25 Keyboard Controller. I'm using a HP Pavilion dv4000 laptop. I thought I set up everything correctly in accordance to the help window instructions. During recording and playback I get this irritating crackling noise. I notice mostly in the MIDI recordings using the instruments provided in the Ableton Live 8 software program. Going over each instrument, I only heard a very slight crackling noise in the background of the rhythm guitar part (recorded in audio). None of the other guitar parts (recorded in audio) had any crackling noise.
