Slicing Loops

I've just got Live rewired up to Cubase SX and was about to try out an arrangement.
I had assumed that loop manipulation in Live would be as complete as in Reason for example. But in case I'm missing something I seems like I can't manipulate loops at the slice level (pitch shift, delete, move etc).
If this is the case, I might as well do everything in Cubase where I can slice Rex and audio files.
Please tell me I'm missing something.

well, since Live doesn't work with slices, you can't work on 'slice level'.
BUT almost all you mentionned can be done at the enveloppe level: muting (trun volume down) pitch shifting (use the transposition) moving (warp markers).
it's a different way of working, but w/ a little bit of imagination, you can do wonders with that... like having effects just on a part (read slice) of the loop for instance.

I see.
What you're suggesting would be absolutely right if I were working with just Live alone. But since I would be using Cuabse as the mixer and effects processor it seems pointless to do what you suggest in Live when it can be done in Cubase.
That sort of leaves me with Live as just a loop explorer. Oh well that's something I suppose.

David122 in arranger mode you can alter the grid down 64th triplets and cut paste slice and dice to your hearts content , really why only use one half of live when it's got perferctly good cut and paste facilities already.

I now realise that in rewire slave mode Live cannot host vst instruments. So it's audio only.
My original plan was to use Live for all audio and midi arrangement and SX to handle effects and mixing. But that is now toast.
As a loop explorer I can use Acid - it previews midi as well as audio. I think I'll check back for Live 5.0!
