Video: Making a Step Sequencer in Live
In this video, I show how to make a simple 4 step sequencer using Clips and Ableton's devices and how it can be extended to have as many steps as you desire.
The technique shown in this video could also be useful if you want to try out new ways of coming up with sequences. It can be fully MIDI controlled and you can save the devices you came up with.

Re: Making a Step Sequencer in Live
awesome...
i was doing a similar thing with the resonators on the audio effect rack, except i had dummy clips controlling each step so i could fire off specific notes and have more visual feedback
but now that i know you can do this with midi too....
wow

Oh yeah. I suppose it doesn't only have to be a Step Sequencer for instruments, you could use it to sequence Corpus too.hurlingdervish wrote:awesome...

yea try corpus over some nasty noisy material
in case your interested heres what i did a couple weeks ago with the resonator and dummy clips

but that arpeggiator thrown in the mix changes everything...

Yeah this is really freaking cool!
You guys have been making my head stretch for quite a while now!
Gonna give this some going over this week...

That's a cool technique and it's very helpful for the newbies, too. Thanks for sharing and I might get it for sure!
Hell yeah!

ancient Chinese secret....heavensdaw wrote: Nice resonations btw hurlingdervish.. How did you do it?

i was playing with dummy clips and effect chains in groups of four, so i figured i should sequence a melody on it with the resonator, it didn't even cross my mind to do it with the midi effect rack... DOH!
and then i had the nanoKontrol perfectly mapped out to the voume of the chains for the sliders and the knobs controlling the decay for 8 steps.
i wonder what doing both midi and resonator would sound like....

It looks/sounds like once you have it all set up you can get pretty experimental and spontainious.. what with fades/mutes/fx etc..
I'm gonna do some experimenting.. Will shoot you some questions as and when I need to.. BTW.. what was the sound source in that track?
Cheers for the tips!

shoot away...
i think it was noise of some sort, or maybe one note from a synth i bounced through a VCR for grit...

Re: Video: Making a Step Sequencer in Live
So if I get it right, this stuff will add control PER note.
Instead of appregiating everything or throwing FX on all the output?

Re: Video: Making a Step Sequencer in Live
It adds control per step (or rack chain). This means that you can either supply notes in the clip and assign them to different chains. Or you could use chain automation in a Dummy Clip to step sequence arpeggiated notes.Inofaith wrote:So if I get it right, this stuff will add control PER note.
