Hello,
is it possible to record into the Reason sequencer while Reason is running under Live as a slave? What other options would I have to record Midi
data -- other then buying Cubase, Logic or something like it.
Thanks
Yes!

You can record MIDI tracks within Reason, while it is slaved to Live.
You can lay down multiple tracks via its overlapping feature, as you play a song over and over -- very nice for building a song quickly.

Thanks, that's good to know. How can I make Reason to get the Midi data though? Live shows that there is Midi data coming in, but I don't see how it can get to Reason.
Thanks again

The MIDI signals will get through Live into Reason. You have to assign your MIDI inputs within Reason, as well.
If you're using OS X, pull down the application menu (labeled "Reason") and select Preferences. If you're using OS 9, pull down the Edit menu.
Then select MIDI and Advanced MIDI in the pull-down menu to make the appropriate port to channel mappings.
For example, you could assign a port labeled "Oxygen Series" to channel 1, to have Oxygen 8 data sent to channel 1.
You should then be able to select the Bus input and set the instrument to the appropriate channel, in Reason's hardware console.
Then you're all set to record!
Have fun,
Alex

Thanks for your reply. I knew it had to work, but I couldn't figure it out for a long time. It finally worked when I disabled incoming Midi (into my Tascam US-224) in Live and enabled it again. I have to go through these steps everytime I start Live. Maybe it's a small bug in one of the drivers. Now it works perfectly.
Thanks again.
