Bug in Follow Actions

I'm having a real problem setting up follow actions (Live 8.04)

I've spent about two hours trying to get it to work on longer audio clips ( > 64 bars long )

I'm following the proceedure in the Live Manual (setting the exact length of the clip in bars, setting Follow Action to"next" , the clips are contiguous in the track column and chance in box A is set to 1 and B to 0 also I'm reasonably familiar with the feature, IOW I'm not a total noob setting this up...

Nope, not happening at all.

Works fine on shorter audio clips 4, 8 bars etc. No problem at all.

But when using longer audio clips the second clip flashes in readiness, but when the alotted number of bars elapses on the first clip and the point of relay is supposed to occur, the second clip does not launch It is left flashing, but not playing.

The machine is not stressed ( less than 5% cpu load ) 4 audio tracks. The laptop is a veretan of many live gigs and works well...

Is there a length limit for audio clips that I am unaware of?

Anyone else experienced this?

Abes, please have a look at this.

cheers,
bagginz

**Update** FYI

I'm starting to suspect that having just one warp marker (for the whole track) to the right of the clip start point may have something to do with the erratic behaviour... Not sure yet...

Hi Bagginz,

working fine over here (with a Follow Action after 64 bars and a clip just containing 1 warp marker). If the problem persists, please send the set to support@ableton.com

Best,
Jörg

Thanks for the reply Jörg.

Was the warp marker to the right of the start point on the following clip?

I'll let you know if I find out anything more...

bagginz

hi bagginz,
Was the warp marker to the right of the start point on the following clip?
no, initially on the first clip, but tried it again setting the start point before the 1st warp marker on the 2nd one, no problem either.

best,
jörg

o.k Jörg, thanks for testing it.

If I experience any more strange behaviour with this function and can tie it down to something reproduceable I'll let you know

I've been having what looks like exactly the same issue as this in 8.05.

BUMP

Experiencing the same thing in 8.0.5 non-beta, any follow action with NEXT action will just not happen (next clip blinks but won't play). Works ok if follow action is in the first few bars, but not if after 20 bars or so.

Anyone?

David

Hm. Having this problem with 8.1.1, with a twist:

The "next" action works fine when it's supposed to switch at the beginning of a bar, but let's say I want to have the follow action hit mid-bar (4.2.0) for example. It seems to sort of randomize; it'll switch clips at bar 5, or in the middle of bar 3. Strange stuff. Global quantize is at 1/4 and all the clips are set to global. Is this a known thing?

I am seeing something very similar in 8.1.1 also. I had several clips in a track and set the follow A action to Next and value of 1, B was 0. I set the clip length of it (had to adjust loop bracket to end of clip to get full length on some clips) and set 2nd clip to loop (per manual for testing purposes) and the fist clip played but second clip just sat there flashing.

I switched out the clips for some others (3 this time) and set up the first to as above to use Follow A to Next w/value of 1 and B set to 0. The first two clips were not set to loop and set the lengths accordingly. It played the first clip, then 2nd clip and on third clip it sat there as before, flashing green arrow (it was flashing as 2nd clip neared end as it should to signify next clip will launch). So I don't know what broke here or when as I haven't messed with the Follow Actions in some time now (don't recall if I even was doing any in 8.0.1 or any in between it and 8.1.1). So something is certainly broken here. Has anyone filed a bug for this yet?

Mike

Hi Darkenedsoul,

sorry, but I´ve been unable yet to reproduce any problem here. If you can reproduce it, please send a Liveset containing the misbehaving Follow Action clips to support@ableton.com

Jörg

Hi Jorg,

Where can I upload the 20MB file? It won't go through email due to size limitation (could be a Comcast thing). I have it rar'd up and ready to go on my DAW system.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

just the .als (without audio files) should be fine.

Hi,

Since I sent from my other system it appears to have created a new case number which is: Case ableton342134 and I uploaded the .als file, my preferences.cfg and log.txt files in case they can be of use.

Thanks,

Mike

I adjusted the loop marker, set the length to 1 less than length of the clip and it worked. But I did find some strangeness: If I click on the speaker icon to move further into the clip so it plays near end so I can see how they flow it does NOT kick off next clip. It shows green flashing. If i let it play through it worked as it was supposed to.
