Is it possible to sync Ableton Live to an external hardware clock? is this done with the AudioMidi app or in some more elegant way in Live's preferences?

is the Orpheus your primary audio card and running Ableton on another audio card?

Prism Orpheus (master)
Midi cable connected to Midi Out of orpheus to slave
ONLY select the Synch button on that Midi Channel Out

Ableton
Midi cable (from master) connected to Midi In of of secondary audio card/midi interface running Ableton.
ONLY select the Synch button on that Midi Channel In

Make sure Midi Clock (and not SMPTE Timecode) is chosen under the Synch options for the Slave (ableton). The Master's send clock can be set to Song or Pattern, your choice. I'd recommend Song if you have 2 diff comps on Live.
Finally click on the EXT button in the upper right (or left, can't remember) of the Slave's main window to start accepting slave commands.. you will if the connection is right if none of the transport controls work on the slave as it's waiting for commands from the master clock.

anyways, that's just off the top of my head and that's how I kinda do it when syncing two laptops, with one master and one slave so I am thing the premise is the same, although I could be totally wrong.. hopefully it works out for your setup... Anyways, I'm a big fan and you inspire alot of people including myself.. thanks for that..

i'm referring more to the master clock sample rate sync, rather than MIDI. I use the Orpheus as an external clock with Pro Tools and was curious about clocking Ableton to the Orpheus in a live/DJ setting, since it makes such a difference in a desktop studio setup.

p.s. thanks for the kind words!

It all depends on how you're using the Orpheus in relation to the computer you're using to run Live. If you're using it in conjunction with another sound card, you simply have to configure that card to receive a clock signal from the Orpheus. The settings to do this will be within the control panel of whatever sound device you're using and not in Live. If the Orpheus is your primary audio device, then it already serves as the master clock.
