Dear Sears,

I am just on a way to change from Steinberg Cubase to Ableton.Till this point....
Friend of my gave me a chance to work with hes Live 8.04 Suit version.
I need to produce one track which I already started and its very important for me.
I allways save all of my project 3-4 times during a recording and I ve done the same in this time too but when I want to open the files the program said serious error during loading the session,and it will shut down.
I tried to open all 4 saved project files but all the same.
I need to open that files as soon as possible because the previous ones which I can open its far from that point where i ve been,so I am not be able to produce again exactly the same session..

What can I do to fix that session file or anyone can fix that?
its really important right now I am already going to be late with the project.
otherways I wouldnt be dissapointed to starting with Ableton and face with this Issues in the beginning..

Why can you not open your project? Are you using a licensed version?


This has got to be the strangest thing, I've read on Ableton.com. And OMFG is that saying a lot!

delete/rename/hide your preferences.cfg file and try renaming your plug in folder in case it's a plug in making Live unhappy.

Oh that is so true. That is so possible. Sometimes live will crash and not open on a strange au vst plug...


I forgot about that one. I've become such a minimalist with my music. I have the tiniest handful of plugs ins I use.

Contact Ableton support, they will tell you how to proceed. They usually respond very quickly.

It can be an FM8 plugin which i freezed to save some CPU.

I can not find any preferences.cfg file...
where can i find it?

If you are on a mac (don't know the details for the pc version but should be similar) you need to right-click on Live's icon then select "Open package". Then you'll find the preferences.cfg file in one of the folders.

Hope this make sense for you.

On pc if i remember well it's documents and settings/application data/Ableton

or something like that

I hate this Vista.I Use to run on XP SP2 and I can not find even the documents and setting folder.its a nightmare...
my PC just crashed a week ago and I had no time to change my motherboard...

if I send the project file to another PC is it possible to open?

ok,I found that preferences.cfg
I renamed.. the problem still exist....

but I found the Crash files.
is that help?
is in the Crash folder and is 2 types of format.
its an ableton live set,and just a cfg file.

sorry for my many question,I really need that project files to open.

I deleted the prefernces.cfg,now i can reach the project finally,I just need to activate the plugins i guess..

I reached the project and deleted the freezed files.
then i load again,and everything came back:)

if ive done this track,I am going to buy my Ableton 8.
Actually I needed only because the sidechain compress so easy,and works great.
