Factory Presets not selectable...

Hi Ableton

I made a Live session on my PB and transferred it to my G4 733 in order to Re-wire it into Pro Tools for mixing and mastering. The session transferred OK except the Random/Chord/Scale Midi Plug-ins. These had reverted to default settings and the drop down menus would not open. I quit both PTs and Live and an empty folder called 'Factory Presets' appeared on my desktop.

I reinstalled Live and relaunched the session - The Factory Presets drop down menu appeared as it should. I thought I'd cured the problem but once again after I launched PTs and then Live as Rewire slave the Factory Preset menus again were not there...

again when I quit both apps there was a new empty folder on the desktop called 'Factory Presets'...

any idea what is going on?

OK - got this problem on my PB too now with v.4.0.3. Load a Live set with the RANDOM/CHORD/PITCH plug-ins, etc. Factory Presets are missing (no drop down menu). But Live creates an empty folder called Factory Presets on my desktop... if I copy the contents of the Factory Presets folder which resides in the Live 4.0.3 folder (which lies in my Applications folder) into the empty folder on the desktop then the presets become selectable...

why is Live not able to read the Factory Presets from the correct folder? Why is it creating this blank folder on the desktop??

Hi Burt,

if Live creates this Factory Preset folder on your desktop, then it must be placed on the desktop too. Maybe instead of making a link to Live you may have it copied to the desktop?

Hi Alex

thx for your reply.

Live resides in the Applications part of the main HD on both Mac's - not on the desktop. However, I do launch Live from an alias icon on the desktop. Should I be launching from the original Live icon in the Live folder (within the Apps folder) rather than an alias?

I'll try anyway...

thx again :-)

Burt

solved!

yes - launching Live using an alias on the desktop was causing the problem - I just put the presets back in the proper folder and deleted the desktop folder - then deleted the alias and launched from within the Live folder in Apps and the Factory Presets are all present...

phew - thx!
