Given that the IK deal is almost expired.. which bundle would you buy being that the difference in cost is only about $80 between them all?

IK Singles ($198 USD)... are these really worth the $400 price tag for the deluxe bundle?
D16 Silverline ($232 USD).. "high quality" sound manglers.. anyone have these? how are they?
U-He Uhbiks ($149 USD).. Urs is cool as fuck! I'd give my money to this guy anyday, but should it be today?

these things always look like your paying for the design of the knobs rather than them actually being noticeably better than abe's native stuff

Nah, I map my u-he plug-ins to racks so that I can control the parameters I need to properly - after that I don't even bother opening the plug-in's GUI. Dunno of a way to easily reproduce the effects I get from u-he runciter and ambience (using only native Live devices) for starters...

it's not so much that these plugins offer much more than Live's plugins, (that is debatable), but they offer a different FLAVA.

A bit like why it's sometimes preferable to use a Jupiter 8 over a Moog or vice versa- both are analog polysynths, but they have different sonic characteristics.

Live doesn't tend to emulate vintage processors with it's plugins, whereas stuff like the T-Racks bundle is specifically doing this. It produces a different type of sound.

First off...

The U-he Ubik is a fantastic product. But, I'm more of a multi-fx man myself......

:P

Sadly, the multi-fx products I like, I haven't had a chance to buy yet, so obviously, I am not using em. But I'm going to suggest anyways.....

Artillery two, and Soundguy FX machine.

Spelling above aside................

Stay far away from Audiffix? Audefex? Whatever, they crash live on start up. Just download the demo, and sit in amazement at how poorly coded they are. Sad, cause they have a great concept. But, they don't work.

Ubik, haven't bought it yet, but I will. Disclaimer though, I beta tested fro him, did sound sets for Filterscape and Zebra 1 etc.

Though if compressors are what you're after I would go with IK.

D16..... arrrgh, no wonder you put it to the forum?

Urs is the cheapest though, and the chorus alone is worth it IMO. 8)

I voted for IK SINGLES because they used them on Eric Clapton's recordings.

I don't own any of the bundles but I notice the IK Singles are a different breed of effects... Compressors, EQ's, Limiters... The others are more soundmangler-type of effects. So I'd say: think about where your fun in the process lies, and extend your library in that area! Try out some demo's and see what fits your style.

Maybe some alternatives in the soundmangling area:
I myself recently purchased the Fabfilter plug-ins and they are awesome. I love the smoothness they put over my sounds (Volcano and Timeless)!
Also another one to consider is the Ohmforce FX bundle. That's some Raw shit. I use Ohmicide in almost every song I create. And where Volcano does some smooth filtering, Quadfromage can crush the F*%^$ out of your sounds! Great stuff...
Also in the past I tried the (very affordable) Camel Audio multi fx plugins (CamelPhat and CamelSpace), which I really liked... I never got to buy them, though (Choices, choices...)

I always thought I'd only need the Ableton FX's (and they are great fun), but "FLAVA" is indeed very valuable, when creating songs!

Good luck with your decission taking!
Let us know what you went for, maybe you can convince me to buy some more plugins, I probably don't have time for, using ;-)

I bought the Uhbik collection recently after a quick play with the demo. The controls on the Ambience (reverb plugin) sold it for me immediately. Controls like "Treble Decay - Longer<->Shorter" and a fantastically logical EQ section make it so easy to dial in just the right reverb sound IMO. After years of using reverbs I finally feel I have one where each control makes a sensible, usable, practical difference to the sound, and as such is so much more fun and easy to use.
