Orion Platinum & Live

Anyone used the two of them together? I realize Orion has to be the master, but it would be one way of using VSTi without using Cubase. I don't use Orion, so I'm wondering if it takes up less CPU bandwidth than Cubase.

Ive been using this setup since OrionPlatinum came out. Its great.
Live becomes just another vst instrument with samples and effects in it. Orion is the studio, and you can sync Live with Reaktor ensembles and everything else.

I tried the same setup with Cubase SX and didnt like it. Orion Platinum is just for audio and is much more simple and efficient for what I do.

I feel this is the best virtual setup available right now on PC.

Try it, the Orion demo is available and you can test the rewire function with Live. A small utility called OnTop which you can find on download.com allows you to keep the Live window always on top while you trigger stuff in Orion.

let me know how it goes if you try it

I will have to try it - sounds worthwhile.

So Live's audio stream shows up in the Orion mixer? What's the cpu usage like?

yep Live's stream shows up in Orion's mixer. They have not found a way to reduce the number of channels that show up though (18 by default)
but they said they are working on it. There you can apply any vst/directx effect to the sounds from Live.

On my Athlon XP 1600+ 256DDR, I usually run around 50-60%, but thats with Live, Orion, Reaktor and 1 or 2 others vsti.

This setup is much more fun with 2 monitors because you run out of space pretty quick...:)
