Live 4.01 and Edirol UA-25 24bit playback problem

hi,
I got myself an Edirol UA-25 interface recently, and Ableton Live 4.01 (Demo) won't playback more than a few seconds of audio correctly when using the drivers in 24bit mode. Soon, lots of stuttering and noise appear. In 16bit mode, all appears to be well. Apples iLife apps seem to work fine with the interface, so it made me wonder if its an Ableton Live problem?
any ideas?
