apc control, without a apc

hi all,
i was wondering if anyone has an idea about a method of control i want to use. i have a nanoPad from korn and i want to use it to control clips in the same way an apc does, but i need to be able to select a section of clips in a successive pattern so i don't run into scaling issues. if i was you just assign a clip to a pad (say cc1) that pad will always control that clip, and because i only have 48 usable pads slots on a nanoPad, i would run out of space to play a full live gig. that and it would be hard to keep all the pad assignments straight in my head.
so what i want to to be able to scroll across the session view just like the apc does, selection a range of clips at one time. so i would start at scene launch set 1, where my first pad (cc1) would trigger the first clip in scene set 1. i could then scroll down one, now controlling scene launch set 2, where my first pad (cc1) will now control the second clip in that same track.
am being clear?
is this something i'm going to have to wait to code into max? or is there a trick to doing that same kind of control now with other controllers?
