has anybody done the online ableton courses from berklee?if so are they worth doing?

I would say no unless you are rich and don't care to spend the $1200 or whatever. I took the class, personally I'd say you could learn a lot more from a book or dvd (though this takes patience and persistence). I was hoping to learn a lot more, but to be honest most of the stuff I already knew and the teacher was no Live expert at all, just an experienced music teacher. That being said if you have the money, don't know anything about Live, and need/want to learn quick, these online classes are a good way to "force" you to learn.

if you are on the east coast i suggest going to dubspot. I have a few friends who went up to ny to take ableton classes and it seems like a really cool place.

If you buy a book or a dvd then it's your property for your whole live.

The learning stuff from Berklee vanishes after one year!

It's better to either get video tutorials or take classes where you are actually at a location with other people.

yeah it is pricy...$13000 for the master one...eeeffff that...online tutorials and books ftw...the cheap way out and seriously will probably be better off

Read manual, experiment and read again and experiment, thats best way to go, after all they only showing you the potential thats locked in teh programme waiting for you to unlock, and the manual is pretty good i think, brilliant compared to other daws i had before this .

if you ever mail to berklee, they spam you to death with their mails!

seems that selling is their best subject. they are on my spam list.

I agree with most of what has been said; Live's manual and lessons are excellent. There are some useful free video tutorials (Ableton site, Covert Operators, Tom Cosm) but not as many as one might think.
Berklee is very expensive (although most college's are). Tons of emails/calls but once you sign up there is no real academic support or counseling to guide you. Also there's literally no interaction with the other students, people just can't be bothered.

*HOWEVER: The Advanced Ableton class is excellent. Ridiculously good actually. I agonized over taking it because of the money but I'm glad I did. The introduction to Live class would be redundant for any Live user (just use Live's lessons) but the advanced course is filthy. The instructor is excellent, definitely an expert on Live (writes for CM). That's the key to any class; how good is the instructor. It's a lot of work, it's actually really challenging, but I learned a ton about music in general and Live in particular.

For Berklee online in general I agree with a lot of the criticisms but the Advanced Ableton course is excellent.

And what about the Dubspot Ableton Programme? Has anyone tried it? I am thinking that this one might also be very interesting as it forces you to make four tracks within your course!!!

Better check manual, the Live internal help texts, (left corner down) & and its build in courses.

Try to visit a good DJ-producer, who knows Live very well.
