Looping problems with Live 4

Has anyone else the problem of the beginning of a sound being missed when looping? It's especially noticeable on sounds with a strong attack, such as bass drums, for obvious reasons.

Say you've got a loop of a 4/4 bass drum pattern andyou set the loop markers in the arrangement view to loop every 4 bars - then the first bass drum in that 4 bars will have the attack missing- just the fist few milliseconds. Now if you change the arrangement markers to loop over 8 bars, the first bass drum in those 8 bars will the attack missing. So there's nothing wrong with the sound itself but Live doesn't play it correctly when looping.

Here's my set up:

P4 2.4 Ghz
1Mb RAM
Win 2000
MOTU 828
Live 4

Any advice gratefully received!

Cheers,
Matt

Do you have the fade option on?

Hello Matt ob,

Which warp mode do you use?
Doe it make a difference if you change the modes?

Best,
Ch Kleine

Hi - and thanks for the replies.

I've been messing around with the buffer size on my soundcard (MOTU 828) and that seems to have fixed it. However, the buffer size is now 256 and I'm getting latency of around 9ms.

It should be noted that this also happens on MIDI clips as well -for instance bass drums triggered from a MIDI clip.

Should the buffer really be set that large in order to achieve a bass drum that loops without losing the attack?

Thanks,
Matt
