cue-ing issue with fast track pro

Hi, I'm not certain how to do this. I'm trying to cue entirely through the Fast Track Pro. Is this possible? In Ableton I selected my master output to 1/2, and my cue output to 3/4. I Play track 1. I armed the cue button next to the master output, I've armed the cue for track 2, and it is playing but I hear nothing. When I press the A/B switch on the interface all I hear is a lot of static. I've tweaked the mix & level knobs on the interface. In Ableton, preferences have been set to stereo. If I set master to 1 and cue to 2 then I can cue in my headphones, however the master audio is split up the same way.

Both music stores I've been to today think that I need to do my cue-ing through a dj mixer and they don't think that I can do it through an interface. Based on what I've seen online, I don't think this is the case. Is this so? Any input or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

yea, it's possible. You need to make sure that you have the outputs 3/4 in your ableton prefs. I would put the mains through the 1 and 2 and cue on 3 and 4. the AB button should switch for you. is the cue volume at the bottom right of the main screen up?

Hi, I'm pretty certain that I'm doing things the way you've said, I've highlighted 1/2 & 3/4 for audio configuration in preferences. Cue volume is cranked right up, but when I push in the a/b button on my interface I hear a bunch of static, with a song faintly in the background, or I can hear the master out when it is out.....I wonder if there's something I should do with the computer settings for the interface maybe???

I don't use the fast track pro anymore, but i used to. what is making crackles? Your head phones? there is also a Fast Track pro control panel that is in addition to the live prefs. go find that and make sure everything is on. we'll get to the bottom of this!

You got main out to 1/2.. where is that going? speakers?

And you set Cue out to 3/4, so when you cue something you want to hear the master channel AND the cue right?

A/B on your inteface does what? Switches the headphones between 1/2 and 3/4?

if that's the case then put the interface to monitor 3/4 (B on the interface?) in your headphones, then make a track with Audio IN from "Master" and Audio OUT to 3/4 so that you can hear your master channel through headphones, and when you cue a track it should go through 3/4..

True, I use a Fast Track Ultra I would assume its similar to this.. Don't have to use ableton to send master mix to 3/4 you can do it there, i guess that's probably where the problem is..

the static sound is in my headphones. When the a/b button on the interface is out, I hear the master. When it's pressed in, I hear static. I can vaguely hear the song, but the static is loud.

I can't find this, I've searched for it in my HD, but I can't find "M-Audio" or "Fast track pro"....

it is going to my speakers

yes

I think the a/b switch goes between headphones, when it's out I hear the master, when it's pressed in I get static

I'm sorry, I can't follow this.

Hi, I'm on a mac....I uninstalled and then reinstalled the drivers for the interface and that seems to have fixed the problem...don't really know that I'd recommend m-audio...because of series of weird glitches like this....thanks for your help!!!

One thing, you wont find the m audio control panel on a mac as thats windows only.

For the same level of control on a mac go to audio midi preferences.

uh, not entirely true -

go to Mac system prefs (in applications folder, not in any specific program)

if you've installed everything properly, there should be a option for the M-Audio unit below in "other" (I use a profire610, but M-Audio includes the mixer app with most of their interface gear)

which should give you something like this
