i've installed 8.1 and max 5.1.. but nothings happening, i have found the actual patches (BufferShuffler.amxd) and nothing happens??

Is there a simple set up guide anywhere ?

EDIT: it appears i cant activate my m4l ?!! I have clicked twice to authorise online as requested and nothing. Does this not work if you only have the max demo?

I am having approx the same problem. My copy of Live 8.1 is authorized I didn't have any problems with that. But I still do not see how to get M4L going inside live. I was at the c74 conference and watched Darwin so I'm fairly certain there is suppose to be some sort of M4L device listed in the Live Devices but I don't see it. I have been using both Live and Max for a couple years and I'm pretty sure I have done everything I am suppose to do. I will keep investigating and report back.

@poster i have tried that several times and it only 'authorizes' everything except M4L? and every time i go back to Lives preferences i can authorize again - it's like its not doing it properly?

ah! i just tried that again and it solved my problem. from inside my preferences it told me it was authorized so I must have just not clicked on that authorized correctly the first time.

Yeah I'm having the same problem– it's authorizing everything but MFL (despite "Max For Live (Beta)" being listed under "Live 8 (Beta)"). Perhaps this is because I participated in the original Live 8 beta as well?

you have to make sure you are clicking the "authorize" link inside 8.1 so that it knows you are in 8.1, otherwise it will assume you are just in the regular version of Live

yeah i've tried doing it directly from L8.1 and tried it online separately with L8.1 open in the bg.. strange?

just to make sure you actually have a MFL serial;
when you go to
https://www.ableton.com/account/licenses
does it show a serial in the Your Licenses list?

Having the same problem here. It shows my serial for M4L on the Ableton site, and I've pressed authorize and gotten the confirmation that it succeeded, but it does not show up in the app at all. Tried it a few times now, still no luck.

Same here. Is everyone that is having this problem running without having Max authorized? I'm running Max in demo mode...

Max for Live's authorisation comes from Live, and has nothing to do with the auth state of MaxMSP.

So you can have MaxMSP in demo, or authorized, or expired and if you have correctly installed an MFL license it will still work ok.

Make sure that Max for Live is showing up as an authorized instrument, and if not that you are clicking through to Ableton's site from inside the beta version of Live 8.1 to get your license updated.

I've been clicking through from within Live 8.1. Perhaps this is a Snow Leopard issue?

Authorized fine here in 10.6.

Ableton.com has me correctly listed for M4L beta:



However, when I try to authorize via Live 8.1b, the authorization appears to go through, yet Live still does not show me M4L as an authorized product:
