Live crashes with Kompakt

I have some problems with Native Instruments' Kompakt sample player when using my Oxygen 8 keyboard.

Note: I'm on PC, AMD 3200+, 768MB, XP Home SP2

Kompakt: Latest version, registered

I've reproduced this several times now (but it does not ALWAYS crash):

1) Open an empty live set
2) drag a kompakt vst to a midi track
3) select Oxygen 8 as midi input
4) set channel to 1 (or 2, or 3, as applicable)
5) open Kompakt interface
6) Play something on my oxy8

...not a sound. I can play the keys in Kompakt with the mouse but it does not respond to my keyboard. I toggle the monitor to On or Auto to be sure but to no avail. I have triple-checked that the oxy8 works in other plugins (like Absynth2 and Sytrus).

After a while I stop getting input signals from the Oxygen 8 altogether, even for other plugins, and when I try to open the Kompakt editor all hell breaks loose.

Then Kompakt decides to just not bother anymore, and stops working.

Then Live crashes. It happens very fast so I haven't been able to get the error messages, but here is what was left on the screen after Live completely froze on me:

a) C++ Runtime Error in Live 4.0.1.exe
b) Live: Live 4.0.1.exe Application Error. The instruction at "0x0721304c" referenced memory at "0x07b5a3d0"

(the rest is unreadable as the error windows freeze too).

The only option is to shut down Live via Task Manager.

This is a pain as I use Kompakt as my main sample player and since I just got Live 4 last week I haven't got a chance to play around with my samples yet since it keeps crashing on me.

Is this a known problem with Kompakt or is there something wrong with the runtime modules in Live?

Do you have the newest version of Kompakt, Kontakt installed? Please check on the Natives Instruments site. I haven't got any problems like that.

Quoting myself: "Kompakt: Latest version, registered"

Yes. I'll check with NI of course, but as opposed to Ableton they have a tendency to ignore every single request for help (kudos to you folks).

I have had problems with Kompakt in FL Studio, too, and I know there is an update for Kompakt around the corner. Let's hope it fixes it.

Just wanted to post the error message. I'll try to reconstruct the problem and see if I can write down more of the error messages. But it IS worrying that Live can freeze completely in about 2 seconds.

Kompakt Crashes Live on PB G4 as well...

Hi!

Just wanted to say I'm having the same problems on Mac OS X (10.3.5) with Live 4.0.1 and Kompakt 1.0.2 or Kontakt 1.5.3 (the latest as of this writing!). I'm on a Powerbook 1 Ghz/1 Gig ram. Not the fastest, but no slouch either.

So...LOVE Kom(p/t)akt and would like to be using this professionally; how is this setup working for other people? I do get sound out of it for a while, then the CPU meter maxes and live crashes. Still waiting on word from NI.

I can understand the CPU maxing (this sampler is doing a LOT), but not the crash.

Please help!

After updating Kompakt to 1.0.3 yesterday I have not had any problems. *crossing my fingers*

Hm...not so lucky on my Mac. PC seems okay but I just upgraded my Mac OSX Kompakt to 1.0.3 and while playing some samples with Kompakt as a VST in Live, Live suddenly quit ("unexpectedly"). I will try to recreate it... :(

It's easily reproducible here. I just clicked on one of the small "plus" signs to collapse a section of the Kompakt player to make it a bit smaller. Two seconds later Live shuts down.

Apart from this it seems more stable now. This certainly looks like an NI bug. At least it is not related to playing, only the GUI.

I am not sure what you are doing, but I played with Kontakt and Kompakt on Mac quite a while now and never got a crash. Also changing the window size inside of Kompakt just works fine here. I tried both VST and AU.
You are talking about the Mac version, don't you?

Yes, Mac version.

I just tried it in Tracktion, where the collapsing works. So I don't know if this is a Live problem or an NI problem.

I'll try the AU version when I get a chance - maybe the problem is with the VST.

As I said before the colapsing works perfect here with the newest version on several Macs. I really wonder what the problem might be.

Strange. I get the crash every time I try. Hm. Apart from this Kompakt seems to be very stable now.

Do you have any suggestions as to what I should look for on my system? I have a Powerbook G4 1Ghz with 768 MB RAM, OSX 10.3 (latest version), Kompakt 1.0.3, Live 4.0.1. On my Mac I only run Absynth, Kompakt and the built-in Live plugins (the rest I run on my PC desktop system).

I also have Tracktion, Reason, and Soundtrack installed, but have only used Live since I got it about two weeks ago. :)

I use the internal sound card.

EDIT: Is there any way to see a "crash log" or something on my system after Live crashes?

After getting the 4.0.3 version Kompakt does not crash on me when using the collapse buttons. :D

That's good news. Thanks for reporting.
