Automatically Releasing Audio Driver In Ablteton Live

I'm wondering if there's any way to set up Ableton Live so that it will automatically release my ASIO audio driver when it's in the background, similar to the way you can do it in Cubase's device set up. I know that you can click the CPU Load Meter to turn the audio engine off and that will release the driver but I was hoping there might be a way that's more automatic. For instance when editing sample files with an external audio editor it would be nice to just click "Edit" in the File Manager and not have to worry about turning off the audio engine then turning it back on when I'm done. Any ideas?

Yes. This would be great.
BTW--Nice tip about clicking on the CPU Load Meter. That's on the top right of the Ableton GUI, right?

Why yes it is. There's nothing on the button that indicates that it does this though. Try mousing over the CPU Load Meter with the info view window open some time. No mention whatsoever! 8O

+1 Yes. This feature would be incredibly useful, especially when you need to go back and forth between Live and your sound library management software (Basehead, Soundminer, etc)

I was googling on this subject last Saturday and I found a couple solutions, not for Ableton releasing the driver, but to share an ASIO driver. Apparently Steinberg has an unoffical "wrapper" that allows you to do this. You can find it here.
