Whats the best way to build and save drum kits?

I like Impulse and the drum rack but they are a little bit limited.
For example I'd like to be able to add FX and processing to each individual part of the drum kit.
I figured a way to do this by loading up multiple instances of Impulse and splitting the midi
info on to separate tracks but this gets messy and I cant figure a way to save all those instances
of Impulse as one kit that I can load up whenever I want.
I'm new to Live so I've probably overlooked a much simpler way to have the control and recall that I want.
If anyone can suggest a better way to set up a kit, maybe add some verb to the snare and some compression to the ride
without editing the source samples I would be really grateful.
I can't help feeling that I'm failing to harness the full power of these excellent tools.
Cheers
