Try automating the pitch contro from -24 to 0 over 16 bars.
Sounds great as a build up type effect.

automate the pitch from +12 to -12 and then the freq from 60 down to 3.33hz in the same time period. it will make it get all wobbly.

Killer

Thanks for the feed back

it really helps

Is there any cool ways of triggering the effect in a live set with out automation or dummy clips

the only thing I could come up with is assigning all the parameters to one knob on the master track

Im makes for some harsh break noise. I'll use it for half a second never more cause its pretty frickin harsh

I know there's more to this effect. There's gotta be right?

Grain delay is a powerful, wonderful effect. I would suggest you learn what each parameter does independently.

Generally, I don't use Sync mode, just specific time delays.

Start with everything at zero, Sync off, Dry/wet fully wet, then play with one parameter at a time. I usually use grain delay to get some subtle delays with small pitch shifts, or use Rand Pitch to get a chorusey effect.

I know what you mean, I have done that and I will continue to do that

with all the parameters the options are extensive

I'm just looking for a little direction thats all.

Thanks for the great tips everybody!

I kinda just gave up on grain delays. But I would suggest using it for textures made up of super slow oscillations with FM and Modulator effects added, then add a chorus to make it smoother, and then grain delay that? IDK, try it out and let me know how it works. I know it works more effective to think up several combinations of ideas, put them on paper and work them together with BELIEF you'll find something good, if not forget it and move on to another idea, or better yet, everything you make, grain delay it I say but always focus on your MAIN METHODS that work and use whatever around that.

This rack demonstrates a nice usage of grain delay:

http://www.arachnaut.net/audio/Overload ... 0Empty.adg

You need to insert two of your instrument presets in each chain in front of the audio effects.
Then the Autopanner chops each instrument in alternating time slices.
There follows a delay to smooth out the chop effect.
Finally the grain delay serves to blend this all together and hide the artifacts.

You may wish to make Instr2 Grain Delay's Pitch 0 instead of .95 - that will take out the slight pitch rise on instrument 2's sound.

Killer Thanks Arachnaut

I downloaded this rack and dropped it into my Audio Effects Rack folder

Strange though It wont let me drop it on any of my tracks

I'm guessing your on Live 8

Im only on 7 so that would make sense

other than that I have no idea why I cant open it.

I often use the grain delay as a psycho acoustic stereo spread for just about anything. Turn sync mode off, and set the delay time to something under 35ms. Now set the spray to a low value, as well as the frequency parameter. Last but not least, set the random pitch to a low value. Adjust the feedback and dry/wet to taste, and off you go! Now try assigning the spray, freq, delay time, and feedback to a single knob for grainy mindfack madness!

Awesome tricks guys thanks a lot!!

Can anyone share their thoughts on how this guy http://soundcloud.com/dj-groovy/groovep ... racks-demo achieved that effect around 0:40? supposedly it's "grain delay and autofilter, with fine tuned macro mappings" but that's all i know..

thanks
