I want to be able to open Live for different situations, without having to reconfigure the hardware for each setup. The three situations I see myself in 1)Studio 2)Live 3)On the road all possibly using various different audio interfaces, and various setups of midi devices. I am on a Mac running OSX 10.5. Do I need to create different boot options? Different logins? Any help here or any suggestions. Thanks for your time guys.

there shouldn't be any issues with that, as long as you have all the drivers for your hardware installed.

Plug in the cables, boot the computer, open live.

You might need to go to the preferences-panel to select the audio and midi-devices you want to use.

i think thats the step he wants to skip

i dont know of a way to do this, ive thought about it too, i just use core audio when im away from my full set up

Yeah I would suggest going through all of the setups before trying it on the road!

I am trying to avoid having to go into the preferences each time to resetup for each device. If it can't be done its ok, was just trying to see if anyone out there already is doing things this way. Thanks guys.

Since you need to have multiple preferences - one for each of these environments, and the preferences are a user attribute, you will need a user login for each situation.

Another way would be to generate each preference and rename the preferences folder each time. Then make a small startup script that makes a symlink of the preferences to the real folder and then invokes the app.
