hi all i have created 1 hour dj mix using live 8 but iam struggling with the overall volume of the mix, what effects do you suggest to overcome this problem please, i have been using the compressor 2 so far in the master channel?

The compressor will give you some additional volume, but if your after a "mastered" volume level then you will need to use something more suited to the task. The Multiband Dynamics effect might be able to give you a bit more volume, as it will split the overall signal up into three frequency bands (low/mid/high) and compress them individually.
Alternatively you could use something that is more suited to the task, such as iZotope Ozone or one of the Waves L-series Maximisers, depending on what you have available.

would you run this along with the compressor or as stand alone effect?

when it's just a dj-mix you could render(or resample) it and use a audio-editor to normalize the volume to 0dB. If it's stil to quiet you schould use a compressor in Live

also when i render to disc it is very poor qualilty sound, any sugestions please?

If I was going to run both the Multiband Dynamics as well as the Compressor, I would put the Compressor first, followed by the Multiband Dynamics. In theory you should get more compression from the Multiband Dynamics than you will from the Compressor (as the Compressor works on all of the frequencies at once, rather than compressing multiple bands individually), so this will allow you to compress it a bit with the Compressor and then squash it further with the Multiband.
