Live 8 "not responding"

I've been having a little problem lately, a few minutes after launching Live when I go to say preview a sample the screen goes opaque and I get a "not responding" message. If there is a track playing it will continue to play, but the only way to stop anything is to close the program. Live will then fail to restart and I have to restart the computer to run it again. Has anyone heard of this happening before? I'm using a Toshiba Satellite running Vista.

Im no expert on Live but as with any application with issues it could be down to a few things. Vista is a royal pain in the arse to make music on as you have so many things taking up memory which yuo just dont need. Open the task manager & take a look on the porcesses tab to see if you got anything else eating up the memory or processor. Also where do you have your audio saved, is this on an external hd? do you have enought RAM for what your doing?
When was the last time you updated your soud card drivers? have uyou tried reinstalling live?

Yes I've gone in and stopped things like the "toolbar" and anything I don't need running in the background. I've heard Vista isn't the best to run a program like this on, but the laptop is only a couple of months old, plenty of RAM. I have the wav files of the tracks I use for djing on the computer's hard drive. I'm using a M-audio Fast Track Pro external sound card. All new stuff, just got the Live 8 suite about a month or so ago and the sound card is new also. I think it's a problem with the computer and not the software itself. I'll re-up the soundcard drivers and reinstall Live and see what that does, many thanks for the tip. I'm making the switch from using Serato and CDJs and my nightmare is having the computer freeze up during a show. Thanks again bruv : )

Depending on the lock up or application crash you could check the Vista log files. It should also give you a bit more to go on.

I experience this too. It seems to be a problem with the mp3 file conversion, as when I convert the mp3s to wavs it works perfectly. But as soon as I try an mp3, everything crashes...
