recording without tempo?

posted this in general but maybe it should go here?..
pretty new to live, i tried looking in the manual to answer my question and i couldnt find anything, im pretty sure i know the answer already but maybe im missing something..
does anyone know if theres a way to record audio into live but not have it be at a specific set tempo from the start? basically i use serato to dj and i want to use live just to record a mix in to it but i dont want lives global tempo to be active.
i guess i could get around this by using my KP3 as the master and live as the slave but sometimes the kp3s auto tempo is a bit spotty and i dont want it resulting in my mix sounding weird or off-sync/warped at times. i imagine there are probably other ways around this as well. if any of you guys can offer any help id appreciate it. thanks in advance.
