Darren Cowley's Studio APC Template - Help.

Hey guys,

not sure who was lucky enough to get their hands on Darren Cowley's APC Studio template for live use, but it has some amazing potential. I finally got around to trying it last night and can't seem to get it working right. All the lights seem to move correctly on the APC through the different modes, and I get the metronome scrolling through the track select buttons. My issue is when I switch a track to the "LEFT" input by hitting the record arm button for that track, I get no sound at all. I'm thinking it has to do with Lucifer, as the sound is supposed to be going through this plug for beat slicing - but when I open Lucifer, it doesn't look like any sound is getting through (the channel seems to be routed correctly as well - I've checked the midi routing and the step info is being fed into the LEFT Effect channel (and I do see that sound is being fed into the correct channel after routing it via this switch).

I was thinking it was a routing issue based on my settings in Bomes, I have APC assigned to "USB Audio Device" which is my APC, and then BOMES In/Out set to the Bomes port. But since everything seems to be working correctly, I'm not sure if this is the case. One other thing that led me to believe it was the routing is that I loose the red box that usually appears in conjunction with the APC being picked as a control surface.

Running Live 8.0.4
WinXP SP3
Bomes Pro v1.7

Any windows users have a screen shot of their Bomes Midi setup? Also, any ideas why Lucifer is not passing the sound through? A bit frustrated as I know this template is super powerful (and fun)! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

Ok, I've narrowed it down to Lucifer as the issue. When I switch Lucifer off, I get sound coming through when routing to the LEFT via the record arm button. Don't use Lucifer that much, so I'm thinking it's either a setting within lucifer (INCARN - I switch this on and it crashes live, nice) or I have the wrong version of lucifer (it's the latest AFAIK - v2.1).

If there is anyone else using this template with windows, could you let me know what your lucifer settings are (I would've figured the settings would be saved within the set?!). This is driving me nuts... so close yet so far.

One other thing I find strange, I don't get the flashing clip stop buttons when firing a clip in that column. Not sure if this is related or not.

Hi Mehalic,

The clip stop buttons are a low tech fix within bomes, they should fire purely when you trigger a clip from the APC, they don't go into Ableton and check whether a clip is playing....

As for the Lucifer settings, is it the stepper or the Stutterer....

If it's the stepper then it shouldn't be on incarn and it should be on the sampler setting, the stutterer i can't remember of the top of my head...

I'm working on a version that removes the lucifers and replaces the stutterer with a funky beat repeat setup that has exactly the same functionality and the stepper with a heavily modified version of Beatlookup (Reaktor) which gives not only the beat jumping but reverse, tape stop and pitch up and down....

Cheers

Hi Ben,

Sure.... You ever finish your Farmpad Template or like me are you still tweaking it?

I've got mine set up to use the audio-ruso racks at the moment, they're wicked with the x/y pad as the switch and the pads sending the same note with different cc's to choose the effect selected....

Send me an email to [email protected]

Cheers

Thanks for the reply Darren, appreciate it (I also sent you an email).

I'm having issues with both the stepper and stutter functions, but I think it has to do with the modes and quantization/buffer length on lucifer. I convinced myself last night that sampler mode was the way to go with stepper, but couldn't get it to behave correctly. I've been re-creating that part of your template in another live set to try and recreate the setpper. I'm just having issues getting lucifer to behave the way it should - that comes down to me not knowing Lucifer very well.

I'll try playing around with sampler settings tonight again, but if you can remember the settings for the setpper, it would be most appreciated man.

Great work again on this, I can't wait to play with its full potential.

I´ve just got the template.

Does it still needs lucifer to work?

I've got three templates running, each need a plugin to get the glutchibg effects, either lucifer or reaktor with bomes or max4live on it's own... The m4l one is nearly totally finished, I just need to iron out a few glitches so I should be able to distribute the template when the controllerism.com website gets relaunched (watch this space!)
