IBM Thinkpad T22... mine had been rock solid with Live, I've done about half a dozen perfomances so far and not a single crash, and this with 14 simultaneous tracks, each with several effects.

G4 running osx is the MOST STABLE and in my opinion, the best performance solution

just got a sony Vaio GR370, fast as shit, upgraded the RAM so now its even faster and works better than my desktop machine. Using emagic 2|6 as the audio in/out. this setup really works well...

i'm using a toshiba satellite 1805-s273, 1ghz p3 with 512 megs ram. windows 2k professional OS and lots of performance tweaks...and running all of my loops off of a 60 gig firewire HD and have had no problems in live performances.
i keep a seperate user profile just for live performances with every non-essential system app turned off (virus shield, start-up apps disabled etc) and just the required pgms/apps enabled in this "performance" profile, and i usually de-frag my HD just prior to a performance...this set-up has been working fantastic for me.

I just got the dell i8100... i like it but it is going back because my 828 is not working great on it. I have come to the conclusion that the ieee1394 chip is not of high quality, so my audio cuts out. Also the 1/8 out on the machine is real noise!!! ReAl!!! -> that is if you have the ac power pluged in. I am getting a sony gr390 now...

this is what i'd be going for if i had the choice. i use a 500mhz powerbook right now, but i reckon apple might have solved the cache problem with their new models so you should get the maximum benefit of the quicker processor. And a 60gb drive would be handy too...
