mute doesn't mute

hello,
this is less related to max4live but more to live directly: i'm working with a fairly large session (37 tracks) reading from an external fw800 HD (7200rpm). my disk doesn't manage to read all of those tracks and i get the orange D glowing in the upper right hand corner of live.
now, even when i put only 1 track into solo mode, i still get the same problem, since live doesn't really mute the other tracks (it continues showing the levelmeters in grey). so when i try to bounce just one 13 minutes track it takes me more than 30 minutes and recording to a new track doesn't work either, since live won't read my session without the hickups.
is there really no way to completely mute the other tracks?
thanks for your advice,
robin
