launching video in the session view with max 4 live?

I'm interested how i could get over the restriction in Live of video only being attached to a clip in arrange view by using Jitter/Max. Any thoughts on this? Would i have to associate video clips with particular slots or could they be launched by the launching of an audio/midi clip?

hi im sure you have seen this already

granted it is not max for live and there is no date on when it will be released, it does seem the most promising

You might be able to hack something together using api information about the currently playing clip, via the API and apply it to video via Jitter (Max) instead of live's native video viewing screen. I say might, because I don't know how well it would synch in realtime. There could likely be a noticeable delay.

that just add music looks pretty cool

something to work on in M4L though

possibly you could make it so you drop the video files into session and then have a max patch that reads the names and buffers the video files so that when you trigger the clip it takes play position and applies that to the video

i havent worked with jitter at all yet, but im sure there is a way to do this

time to study up

good luck aaron, happy coding

EDIT: LOFA beat me to it, but with the ms pinky/video scratching work some people have done with M4L i feel like you would be able to get the delay to a comfortable amount

first attempt

still learning jitter, i bet if you buffered the clips when they were added and then watched that clipslot for fire there would be less delay

also, doesnt support looping, or just stopping

switching clips does work though

Perhaps the timepoint object, in connection with the transport object, might provide some interesting possibilities for you.

Although it migh not be of the slightest interest to you or a source of pesteration rather than inspiration (especially if you have epilepsy, have the slightest amount of empathy and concern for an audience that may contain persons that do, or if you find some of the current enthusiasm for headache-inducing strobes to have been interesting in the 60s and lame in the 10s), remember that the namespace in Max is global.

For example, if you have a jit.window object in a patch on a track with a name [jit.window seizure] and you have several objects on several tracks sending matrices of data to a jit.window object called seizure, that single window will display them all.

Of course, you need not use metro objects running at lunch-launching rates to trigger the matrices - you can trigger using time-based objects, etc.

I've been doing quite alot of work in this area and have been surprised at how good the results have been. I am learning all this stuff and have no off the shelf patch to share.
But basically I've been deriving the video file names from clip names observing the playing position of clips on each track and sending it to a named gl window created in a separate device.
Some of this is contained in the video version of the buffer shuffled I think which I have shared.
Also made a video demo of video piano which does what you want.
No links cos I am on train but they are on forum somewhere.
