Live Audio Drops Out if Live is on but not used?

Okay, I've had this problem a couple times now and I think it's related to starting up Live, leaving it sitting onstage and then having to wait to actually use it for a while. Has anyone else noticed this?
I have Live 3.0.4 running on an 1800 series athlon processor HP laptop using an Echo Indigo DJ card. It runs pretty well, although it was smoother with long samples when I was using the Layla. But I've had this happen twice where I've done a soundcheck, everything was fine, then I've gone back to play and the audio has periodic drop outs. I'd love to know a way around this other than booting up, soundchecking, then shutting down only to boot up again right before I play.
Thanks in advance for any feedback or similar experiences. If you solution is to upgrade to 4, you can save it because I'm going on tour in 2 weeks and I'm not about to overhaul the thing now. I plan on getting 4 eventually, but for now, has anyone else had this problem and know of a way to fix it?
