In "Shutta" by Burial, when the stabs come in at about 56 secs, I cant work out what effects are on these stabs, they kind of sound like they hit then quickly duck underwater and tail off for quite a while.

Anyone have any ideas, would quite like to know whats going on there

sounds like side chain compression on the stabs using the bass line as the side chain input

edit... it sounds like side chain compression on the reverb return using the bass line as the side chain input

you could also try reverse reverb followed by a simple delay
