I authorized 8.1b6 but M4L did not appear in the list

I downloaded the latest version of M4l form CYcling 74 and Live8.1b6..
Both were installed.
I launched Live and authorized but did not get m4l to appear in my list of authorized instruments. M4L does not appear in my preferences->file section with a directory. I tried manually installing maxforlive.alp. It installs but does not appear in any way afterwards (e.g. not in the live plugins and the example projects won't load)
I am on a macbook pro running the latest verison of leopard.
