Live 8.08 Acting Crazy

Every time I restart my computer, it does not recognize Live 8.08 as being installed. I know this because I have Live files on my desktop and they are blank icons. I posted a question earlier last week asking what to do with old versions of Live after I install an update. I was told to delete the old versions. It is only since then that I have been having issues. The only way I can open Live files/projects is open Live from the applications folder, then go to "Open Recent Files" command. Can someone tell me how to fix this? Should I just download the 8.08 update again?
Thanks.....

you're probably using the wrong shortcut. one left from an older version.

i don't know how to check the target on a Mac OS but in Windows the properties of the "icon" show the target which will say 8.0.5 or 8.0.8 (Live version number) at the end of the path.

my guess is your pointing to the former and since you've deleted it... you're pointing at nothing.

In Mac OSX, you simply right click on the file and click Get Info which is the same as Windows Properties. Then you can tell it to open the file with Live 8.08. You can also check the box that asks if you want to change all similar files to open with Live 8.08. I do all of these things and still, every time I start up my computer, the files are not recognized.
Thanks for the reply....

what happens if you click the launcher from within the Ableton installed program location rather than the shortcut?
