LIve crashes on scanning/opening certain VSTs

Hi, have emailed Ableton support a couple of weeks ago but got no answer, so thought I'd try here. The problem is that Live crashes when I try to open and/or scan some of my favourite VST plugins - FXpansion BFD v2 and both GForce's Virtual Synth Machine and M-Tron Pro. All work in their standalone mode, but I really need to incorporate them within Live.
With BFD, if I have it within my plugins folder and Live set to 'auto-scan' on start-up, Live simply 'ceases to work' and closes, and that has persisted until I've removed the BFD .dll file from my plugins folder.
With VSM and M-Tron Pro, the same thing happens initially, but Live automatically disables them from the next time I open (so, for example, the String Machine .dll file remains in the folder, but isn't scanned and can't be used).
The same things happen (i.e. Live crashes and closes) if I turn off the automatic rescanning-on-startup but then try and scan/open these plugins once Live is open.
My other plugins all continue to work fine, including other GForce instruments, and I've noticed no other significant problems with Live on my laptop since upgrading to Live 8 (system details below). It's basically as if Live can't cope with the larger .dll files/instruments, but I can't believe that's it and there's no answer.
Really frustrating as I love these instruments but they're really no use to me without DAW integration, so hoping someone out there can help.
Cheers!
