Live looping

Sorry if this has been discussed before but first post and all.

My plan is to record my sax and build layers of loops in a live gig setting. I want to use my M-Audio Keystation 49e midi keyboard to trigger the recording of one loop, then the continuous playback and recording of the next etc but I am finding it very difficult to get someone to explain it step by step. Anyone out there know of a tutorial I can use or something.
I've also been experimenting with Midi translator but I can't get the commands right. Am I going in the right direction?

Any help is much appreciated. Cheers

so you basically want to do some overdub recording of you playing you sax, while using a midi-controller to controll the looping ?

If yes, then Live 8´s Looper plugin does exactly this and is of course midi-controllable (Rec, Stop, Play, Overdub etc)

http://www.ableton.com/pages/live_8/announcement/looper

There are other 3rd party vst loopers aswell if you arent using Live8

What exactly is causing confusion? Do you use the looper device? Are you having trouble with midi mapping? You can definitely do all that, and you probably dont need Bomes to do it. Where in this process are you?

What S4racen said about Kid Beyond is exactly what I want to do.
I'm on 7.
The bother i'm, having is the midi mapping. I have assigned keyboard hotkeys to the Arm the track, record button and monitor options. and about 4 tracks for each loop. I was then trying to use the Midi translator program to launch the different process needed to get this working. Is this right?
Oh yeah, the program can receive midi data from my keyboard (the midi light flashed when I press a key) but it wont assign any keys to the buttons etc on screen?

Well first off I'd recommend you upgrade to Live 8 which has a looper built in. There's ways to live loop in previous versions, but 8 makes it MUCH easier.

Cheers

If you're serious about it I would recommend the live looping plug-in Mobius. I posted video tutorial demo with text walk-through here: http://www.perboysen.com/archives/132

In live preferences you need to check and see if the Remote and Track are enabled for the input of your keyboard. It's in the MIDI Sync Tab.

I have recently moved up to Live 8 just because of its built in looper. Previously I have used hardware to achieve this using an Akai Headrush mkII or the digitech jamman. Live's looper is the best thing EVER.

I also picked up the behringer fcb-1010, I highly recommend this as it frees up your hands and you can control the looper while you play.

^ so what do you use all those extra pedals for on the behringer fcb-1010?

I want a pedal to start and stop looper so I can record vocals or a bass loop. Every time I try and search pedals I'm enamored with features that I don't need...

start
stop

on
off

its simple really... but not so simple apparently.

You could always build one of these, it is pretty easy:

I use all of the "extra" buttons for all kinds of things. I do more than just looping though. I am processing my guitar through live so there is a lot of fun stuff to map out with different processing chains.

Live's looper has a lot more features than just loop on/off. You can change the loop length, undo, toggle overdub mode, clear the loop, all kinds of fun stuff.
