House died a long time ago.
House for me is the mid and late 80's chicago trax.

The plastic stuff you hear these days is just prefab dance music.

Yes sir. I am all for nostalgia, but there's still a lot of innovative stuff. You just have to dig for it!

the typical thing. old stuff was so great, new stuff is so not..

we should all stop making music then and just listen to the good old stuff, as it's the only real thing!!!

house music, in general, is club music. what that is changes regularly, and it's still called house music. this might not be in agreement to some genre-nazis (yes, thats the name for those, even while i don't like it), but still fits into the general public usage of the term "house music".

I don't know if that was directed at me or not, but I do like the old school a little better. It seems like they weren't trying too hard to jam. They just came up with a basic melody with the 4 on the floor beat that was hypnotic in it's simplicity.

The Electro area of House music is, in my ever so humble opinion, one of the most vibrant and exciting areas of dance music. You just have to dig for it like I said.

Todd was awesome, NY freestylehouse finest!

I still get the positive chills from this 1987 classic.
What a tune

btw @ davepermen
Personally, i grew up with it, it was fresh new, and original
These days the house genre became like fast food, eat it and shit it, i can't relate to it, it's cloned and copycated so many times that the originality complete went poof
Emotionally i have no strings attached with the new stuff.

wasn't directly directed at anyone, it's just an annoying thing i see everyhwere around. all those "it was so good back then" crap is just annoying in general, leaves no room to try out new things, be creative. and then, when all you do is play those old tracks everyone remembers, they ask "why don't you play something different, something new, not always the same". people can never be satisfied..

but i personally am 100% pissed off by people holding on the past, believing it to be so much better. that's a mind-trick, that you only remember the best parts of the past, and is in general untrue (and even proven by scientific research :)).

this is not to say the old music sucks, and doesn't have it's place. but bashing the new stuff is ridiculous. there was tons of crap back then, and so is right now, and so will be in the future. but in all this crap, everytime, the best parts will shine, and the people that try to truly create something special will get honoured over centuries afterwards.

and then, in 20 years, the electro and minimal fans of today will talk about how great music was back then, and how 'real' and with heart, not like that new crap we will have to listen to in clubs in the future, that monotone synthetic crap produced for the masses.

in short: get real, get fair, find the good thing in all places.

(and btw, the first link you posted just sounds like actual minimal, save for the vocal, which is not my thing in that case.. doesn't mean it sounds bad, just, not really different)

I don't think that the "minimal" genre existed back then! :D

This comes under the "Classic" house genre.
