[c74] Problems when opening two instances of Max

Hi,

- make a copy of the Max application (MaxMSP copy.app)
- launch MaxMSP copy.app
- launch Live and insert a new MFL plugin,
- press edit on the plugin, this starts MaxMSP.app (not the copy), but the plugin is opened in MaxMSP copy
- make a new patch (Cmd+n) in MaxMSP.app, make a new object and start typing the name of an object
- MaxMSP.app now hangs for about 60 seconds before responding

Live 8.1b8, Max 40856

Best,
Mattijs

Not sure why you would want to do this ever. But for the record, as Mattijs has pointed out, this is something that you should avoid.

I work with multiple instances of Max all the time, because a) Max only has one global scope, opening originals of abstractions in the same instance can lead to interference of send/receives and b) Max doesn't support the use of multiple cores, using multiple instances is a solution for that.

If there would be an easy way to fix this issue I would highly appreciate that.

Hi Mattijs,

It's not going to get fixed in the foreseeable future. It's just something that you can do with the Max app, not something we set out to make into a feature.
