hello,

just a little post to inform those interested by my diy controller project and to share my happiness.


After 8 months, from the idea to the hardware, the Protodeck works fine !
I have to do some finishes (making the box more beautiful, documenting some parts, etc), but it is fully functionnal:
- midibox based (2CORE w/18F4620 + 2 hacked DOUT + 3 AIN + 3 DIN + 1 LTC + own 2 firmwares)
- 87 pots + 82 buttons + 86 RGB leds

now, I have to finish the max for live patch I'm using as an interface between the controller and my liveset itself.

you should!
if you create from scratch. you'll need time/courage/luck and a bit of money
midibox framework is very powerful and the community behind is very skilly!!
more, these firmwares are very improved and reliable!
you really can trust it! it is a strongly reliable stuff!
the low factor is only your soldering skill.

it should be an heresy and more: midibox gpl license would be broken and I want to protect that

because it fits my needs. it matches my own way of live...
it should be an heresy to buy it and constraint yourselves to change your way!

I published it to give ideas, inspiration, courage
to shout on the web that building that isn't an impossible project
you can even build reliable hardware without be jealous about the performance of those gear built by respectuous company!
really, the protodeck doesn't freeze, hang or hic!
and it doesnt drain too much current

I solder ...but it's truly a low factor (shakey hands...)
...never soldered anything but cables or loose connections inside mixers
..the PCBs are gonna look very artistic..

btw ... you need to post of vid of this puppy AT WORK !

if you'd have time, you can check the blog
there is ALL my way from the idea to the working hardware!
long path, a lot of questions, of doubts
a learning curve increasing each time
it could give ideas about "do it yourself" way of mind

I'm involved in the midi mapping and live API through max for live, so I don't have much time for finishing the box, paint some part etc...
I promise, I'll make a tons of videos & picture as soon as it will be finished!!!!

I hope this page will help people.
I'd just like to be helped with my patch too, but often, open-source works only in one way
and I guess I can do it myself too, so...

Did you do this part time? If so, you got through a TRUCK LOAD of work in 8 months, with not only building, but research, design, manufacturing, drawing, documenting etc. I take my hat off to you sir

I did that on my own time.
but with a little daughter at home ... it was a little bit complex to organize

so yes, I did a lot of work, a lot of test, component hunting, software & hardware, printed circuit boards design, ... a lot of work!

btw, with all my docs, you could build a thing in ... around 3 months I guess
