The only tip worth knowing about breeders is fuck those guys right in their ears. Do your soul a favor and adopt - you can definitely find one of those in a shelter around your parts, I guarantee it, and while it may not be "purebred" it will still be cool, it will love you forever for saving it from being miserable/put to sleep, and will cost you WAAAAAAAAAY less money (breeders will charge thousands for "purebreds", shelters may charge a few hundred, tops). Seriously, even if you can't find one, wait a little while, and one will turn up.

My uncle went to a breeder for his dog, and it turned out to be inbred and now has crazy seizures all of the time - there's no way to tell about that kind of stuff unless it's blatantly obvious (in which case a breeder won't even let a dog like that live) or unless you take it to a vet after purchase, in which case it's too late.

Look in the shelters first, you'll be happy you did after you see how happy your new friend is to be out of the slam and in with a good home.

Yep, I always got my cats at shelters (spca). All were fine. No weirdos.

Shelters actually do all of the vet legwork for you usually, and then give you paperwork for all of it, which is awesome.

thanks for the info.. you are right.. maybe i should just adopt.. and to think of it, it doesn't even have to be a frenchie as long as it's small enough (weight restrictions in complex) and plays well with kids.. so there still might be hope for those opals.. gonna feel sorry for my neighbor..

Adoption is always best if possible... but are you on mac or windows? I heard the French Bulldog mac drivers are crap.

definitely adopt! check out http://www.frenchbulldogrescue.org/. sometimes you get lucky and stumble upon a whole colony of little silly looking dogs that will just make you laugh everyday. plus rescues are usually really good at taking care of any health issues and fostering animals before they give them to their "forever homes." that helps them to become more social or correct minor issues and potty training. dont go with a breeder unless you can be sure they are reputable since that dog suffers from many complications if they are bread poorly. plus it will save you a ton of money!

my girlfriend and i rescued an 8 year old pug who we have named lulu cooking romonstor and she is the greatest little dog in the world. she looks so funny and cute and is the friendliest, most easy-going dog i have ever met. we currently have another pug named mr. brinkman on a trial basis to see if he is a good fit with lulu and our cat troibos tippytaps (who we also rescued).

behold the power of the glorious tongues!

I see a bit of a correlation between dog breeders and carnival workers.

Anyhow, any time a dog thread appears I take the opportunity to post a pic of my old buddy Rudi, gone for 8 years on Dec 6th.

Definitely adopt, as mentioned most places will take care of neutering, chip ID, and the first shots for you, which saves a lot of money. Our neighbors have a bull dog, very cute but they are prone to hip and shoulder issues. They been breed for that short shape, but it forces their legs to meet the sockets at a weird angle that causes a lot of stress on the joints. Might want to invest in pet insurance to cover any possible health issues later.
