Akai Pro Ableton Drum Machine rumour

If Akai and Ableton don't have this up their sleeves, they would be dumb. (sorry for the thread hook)
It would be a new device; DrumRack2.0 plus a hefty hardware MPC-like controller for Ableton with the ability to stand alone . 2 rows of 8 pads with a separate step sequencer drum window ala Maschine.
I mean - Akai and Ableton? Quit teasing me!
oh - don't forget the Looper controls.

yeah - there was a bit of talk about this a while back.
More to the point - A fully integrated AKAI drum rack controller (plus a drum rack update) could be a direct competitor to NI Maschine.
I REALLY want this to happen

i don't see this happening, but i could be wrong. the way Maschine works, there is no need for more than one Maschine instance in a project. drum racks isn't set up that way at all. i feel like if this was going to work, you would only be able to load one instance of drum racks per project and that would be very limited unless they had two versions of drum racks' internal plugin. one that will access the controller and talk to it and one that will operate as usual that won't try to communicate with any hardware unless you tell it to via midi track.

Imo drum racks are really underrated...
I'd love to be able to map every cell in the grid of piano roll to notes to use as step seq... and i guess it's not possible with M4L either:/ mpd pads + some pads for step seq & knobs+ faders... gosh...

Sounds lame to me.
I've got a gear-boner ten miles wide for the Linndrum II. Now that is going to be drum machine nirvana. eventually.

Yeah I hear that. Big wood for Linn's vapour here, too. I love how they keep referring to it as a beat-oriented product. Could really prove to be the best thing since Live if the vision makes it through to reality.
Too bad there's a consensus that Ableton/Akai would fail at a drum product. I was imagining an entirely new drum plugin in Live, not really Drumrack2. Surprised to hear that Machine sales are weak.

What's the problem with the existing drum rack? As a newbie it seems pretty flexible and competent to me...

As an oldie.. me too?
Why couldn't Akai build a controller along the same lines as a MPD/MPC?
Kinda an MPC and the MPC OS sequencer, but do with out the sample engine.
Why would this only need to be tethered to one instance of a drum rack?

WTF? We get the APC40 and the Launchpad and you spoiled bitches are now handing out wish lists for more Live specific controllers?
Wow, just wow.
