Hi,

In the arrange view, there doesn't seem to be a way to add midi ctrl automation on a midi track. Is that correct? Can someone explain the design rationale behind this?

Are you use a lite version

There is a triangle next to the name of the track that will expand the track and then a drop down menu under it that probably sez "none" Open the menu and select mixer or whatever and there is a drop down menu box under that one and you can select the things to automate.

midi cntrl can be added into a Clips Envelope control. (very similar to Logic's Region based automation)
All Envelopes are relative


Double cliick a Clip (Region) in Arrange view... and then press the 'E' in the bottom left of the clip view area. Very bottom left of screen - with clip open, there 3 buttons (Session view), 2 in Arrange view - an 'L' (Session only), two notes, an 'E'.
Pressing the 'E' will open the Envelopes, for that Clip.

Try recording some midi CC into a Clip in Arrange, and you will instantly notice where it goes.

If you Assign Parameters on your plugin to your controller, et al (transmitting CC) then those automated Parameters will show up in Arrange.

Try assigning some of your Controllers midi CC to a parameter on a plugin, and record some movements. You will instantly see how it changes in the Arrange.

Start with one of Lives plugins.

Look for the 'midi' button - top right of screen. Press it.

Lots of things will turn dif color (blue in my color scheme). These are all automatable.
select a paramater on the plug, and then move a slider or pot on your controller.
The paramter will now have a couple numbers in the top left corner of the colored area.
These numbers are the midi CC (channel & CC), controlling that parameter.
deselect the 'midi' button.

Now move the controller pot/ slider you assigned and watch the parameter move on the screen.
You can now record this in Arrange.
