Advice on setting up my monitors (pic's inside)

Hi,

i'll update my monitor setup to some Adam A7's and think about best placement in my room.
I've got 15 sqm. to fill with my stuff (typical bedroomstyle :-).
I want the minimum of acoustic distortion and reflection. so, i'll place the desk symmetric in the room
and some 50-60 cm away from the wall. the question is about the rest of my mobiliar. can anyone
who is experienced or interested take a look on my placement ideas and comment?

is it useful to get some bassabsorbers/trabs for the upper corners?
are there any dead/accelerated acoustic spots to think of?
do the monitors stand's is enough away from the wall?
which layout do you think is better?

thanks in advance!!

hey man

i would shuffle things about in ur room.

there's a brown cabinet looking thing next to your dj decks.

id recommend putting your workstation + monitors there.

that will give you a lot more space on either side before the left/right reflections kick in.

Are they pot plants in you're room?
Tsk tsk.

  • Sit 38% into the room
  • Place the monitors so that the tweeters are aiming at your ears
  • Make sure you make an equilateral triangle. (The distance from tweeter 1 to tweeter 2 should be the same as the distance from any tweeter to the back your head)
  • Set up high frequency absorbers on the side walls half way from the monitors to your head

I've heard it is better for the monitors to be on the long wall of the room, not the short wall. That may be a view of personal preference, so experimentation is encouraged. Your room is on the small side, foam would go a long way to improving the sound quality of the room. Monitors at least a half meter from the walls is a good idea as well.

You should also play each key and take note which of them resonates with the shape of the room. The difference will be slight in the range of a couple db, so listen very carefully.

Facing the length of the room as shown is ideal... But he needs to create reflection free zone with some mineral fiber traps. (side walls + ceiling)

Not considering any other acoustic treatments in the equation, but he'd definitely need bass trapping on the front wall corners at the least.

thanks guys. as i see from your posts, i'll run into early left/right reflections
as i sit in the short side of my room. but i thought it mainly depends on the symmetric
position (to the side walls) and proper basstrappin'. I'm thinking about placing absorbers
and traps in the corners AND directly left and right from the desk. putting the desk on the
long side i'll run into cluttering my room i think (will push and pull things around and will
see).

thx again.

i would get them up off your desk too. i think most desks arent deep enough for even near field monitors. you can get some cheap stands for about 30 eur and save alot of space on your desk too. also if your at all tall youll never get the monitors at head level on a desk.

sure, i thought of stands, but that would lead to the monitors become nearer
to the wall. actually my Yamaha MSP5 stand on two of those each which brings
them to my ear height.

did a third variation which leaves more place in the right studio section of the room.

Just my 2 cents, but i`d position the cabinet on the back wall, cause i guess its the highest piece of furniture you got. Putting it on the (or to be more exact: one) side might cause early and uneven standing waves on that one side.
