Ableton Forum

I've sent two emails recently to support (clicked on the contact 'us' button) and not a glimmer of a reply. Frustrating because I was very excited to get the 4.03 update but have had a constant problem with using a sustain pedal on a midi track (on both Mac and XP platforms). Whenever I use the pedal without midi having already been recorded there's no problem. As soon as I'm recording over an existing clip the notes hang until I stop the music and hit the pedal again. Looking at the newly recorded clip there seems to have beeen a note on message and no note off across the whole clip - no matter where I dropped in.

I hope someone can help because I don't really want to go back to Logic 6.4 but I am a keyboard player and need the sustain pedal. Am I doing something stupid?

there seems to be some problems in 4.0.3 about midi and hanging notes (see other posts in the bug & probs forum). so i wouldn't be surprised if it was another of them. i think that's why ableton didn't respond to your mails, they must have quite a lot of stuff to look at.
however, did you try what you explain with 4.0.1? does it have the same behaviour?
what do your clip enveloppe look like for CC#64?

on a side note, i think it's better to use the forum before posting your issue directly to ableton. this way you can see if other users have the same problems, and it saves ableton some time as well.

I have mentioned this as a reply to other midi problems on the 'bugs' forum and obviously when I sent the email to support my description of the problem was more detailed. The controller info is a bit bizarre. When I drop in on an existing midi 'clip' (or track!) the new clip that is created is filled with the controller info, even if I didn't use the pedal until halfway through. There is no 'off' information generated. Like I mentioned, this doesn't happen if I'm recording on a clean track. I have to delete the previous clip before I can record sustain info successfully. It could be something to do with the pedal I use or the keyboard but I'd be interested if others have the same problem.
