Live_log.txt corrupted! (Windows 98SE)

Hi
I'm putting out a call to anybody else who's had this problem (I know there's been a few posts on it already).
Here's the deal - every time I launch Live, it freezes on the splashscreen while starting up for 30-40 seconds, but eventually does run (scary). Then every month or so, Live refuses to open and has corrupted the Live_Log.txt file - if I run scan disk, it reports the size of the file doesn't match the allocation (so I can't even attach it to an email to send Ableton!)
The only fix is to uninstall/reinstall every month or so. This is such a great program, I wish it this one problem would get fixed.
Has anybody else had this? I know they know about it

, but no fix yet...
thanks...
Glad someone else has experienced this Problem!

I had the same problem over and over. Got so Madd cause no Tech Reply. I finally figured out that the Live_Log_file.txt was not the culprit. But 1st had to jump thru many Hoops. I config the text file not to open with NOTEPAD, but WORDPAD instead. That took care of the file Allocation Problem, but days later LIVE would freeze Lock-up whole System again. Then one day i took the time to actually read the Live_Log_File and lo and behold it became clear that the log file could reveal were the rode block was. Just follow the Startup text and look for when the garbage starts to print. THAT'S THE RODE BLOCK. One time the Lock-up came rite after i disconnected from the internet and STARTED LIVe standalone( seems Live stalled on (THe audio Voice MODEM) If you open your Log file in WordPad and STUDY IT i'm certain you will find what devices on your system are causing the CRash. Live is very sensitive when it comes to Audio/Midi devices. For me i had some Old audio device drivers no longer in use and when i (DO NOT MAP THRU THEM) Live hasn't Locked, crashed or Froze since, It Cant Even SEE THEM. But i keep my fingers crossed. Seems you aint gone get No TEch Support for specific SysTem Config Schemes, you have to learn what's in your Machine's Guts that need Tweaking.

Hi Quincy
Fist of all, I'm surprised you had trouble with Ableton's tech support - for me they've always been *great*, getting back really quickly. For instance, they got back to me just this morning and sent me a file to put in the prefs folder, and for now that seems to be working - no startup freeze, no scandisk errors.
Glad you got your problem solved, though - hopefully I'm on the right troack now too
same Problem and no solution from Ableton

I had this problem too, it rarely crashed altogether but would always lock-up for 40 seconds or so during opening.
I contacted tech-support & they sent me a fix file & a couple of suggestions which didn't help. In the end I switched from windows 98SE to Windows XP (so I could run the new cubase) & now Live opens in about 3 seconds.

I have the same problem of Ableton crashing on the splashscreen. Something that helps [ and avoids re-installation ] is to move the config and log files out of the pref' folder then restart Ableton , it will ask for your serial number , don't enter it , press quit instead, then move config and log files back into the pref' folder . Ableton should then work until the problem arises again.
