IMAGINE IF LIVE COULD FIRE VIDEO CLIPS FROM SESSION VIEW

My next dream wish for Live would be the ability to chop up video clips, place them in session view and still have them
outputing to the monitor (i.e. external monitor for projection) while jamming them in the session view.

-1 for this, -1 for notation.

Max for Live then,can't wait.
I think it'll open up the creative field, being able to treat video clips like samples, as opposed to just having
video supporting music at shows.
I know you can link VDMX (VJ program) to speak to Live's session view, to match video clips to audio clips.
Also, Coldcuts involvement with Ableton (them being so visually orientated), it'd make sense that video development would follow
(without M4L or Serato etc) and just be part of Live's features.
I mean even in Arrangement view, you can already mix, match, beatmap, timestretch multiple videos (which is a fantastic feature already, how many DAW's can do this?)
Why not extend the same love to the Session view?

Feed your midi control data clips from Ableton into Quartz Composer,

that's how I do my video clips.

A few examples:

-free motion clip- / -donner sommer clip- / -spaceship earth clip- / -tonsori clip- / -colour field clip-

All the video is directed by parameters in the music (such as Kick drum, pad frequency etc; not just an fft on the whole mix as is typical with mp3 visualizers).

Hi Photonal,

nice stuff, but I was getting at was utilising the video clip (with it's audio) within the music.
I posted earlier about this in a gig I did with an AV outfit "Krushed and Sorted"
Please check this out:

Here we're using Live to sync with VDMX to fire respective video clips with their audio to play along with clips in session view.
The video and it's sound becomes integral to the show.
I just think it'd be sweet not to have to always sync with another visual program and instead,
be able to also use session view for video.

Suppose my wish is along with the guys who want automation in session view.
They figure if you can do it in arrange view, why not have the ability in session view.

I am bursting with excitement about the visual possibilities of Max for Live. Instead of running things out to another program we will be able to use Live directly. Can't say I will be able to program what I have in mind myself... but I can imagine what someone will build!

So cool to know there are guys out there using Live who are also keen on the visual aspects.
Here are some pics of a gig I did recently.
Visuals are done by Grrrl. She currently uses VDMX, midi controller and a Korg Kaoss Entrancer (Kaoss Pad for Video+Audio)

Well guessed dude. Stage design by the Grrrl.
She used 3 projectors for 3 screens. main one in the middle of the stage and 2 smaller ones flanking.
Just by draping a white sheet in front of us, we created the illusion of one big screen in the middle from audience perspective.
I'm a big fan of visuals for gigs, it adds narrative, creates textures and even adds to the lighting for the stage.

Also dig your stuff. I did see your track "8 bit logic" doing its rounds on MK. niice!
Do you guys ever get down here to my part of the woods in CT?

Posted from the Max for Live info page...."Yes, video synthesis and animation via Jitter objects is supported."

Likely a dumb question but... we will be able to project or view on another screen the video that is being processed in M4L right?

Hope I'm not jacking the thread here!

I've been doing this for years.

make track markers on the video in arrange view.
assign notes to those track markers.
enable REMOTE IN for a midi keyboard.
now when you play those notes the video jumps to that spot.

to play from session view use midi yoke or the IAC to send notes from clips out midi yoke then back in with REMOTE ON enabled.

Hey Tone,
shot for the input. I've also checked out placing markers along a video in arrange view.
Didn't know your method for the session view (will give it a try)
My point was that it still lands up being a work around:
i.e. you need to place markers, midi map, send via midi yoke or IAC.

I've done stuff where I've chopped the video up and placed short segments on session view.
midi mapped each clip, jammed them out with record to arrange (global set to "none"), then viewed the video fruits of my labour.
You get a kind of Kutiman style video when viewed back in arrange (check him on youtube, awesome stuff).

I'd love to treat the video like audio clips, chop it up, place in session view, jam away and be able to immediately view the output
as I play, without all the work arounds.
Also, now with the APC and Launchpad, it'd be even better, as you could update the video clips, swop, re-arrange etc and not have to
worry about resetting markers, remapping the midi notes etc.
Just be able to view the session for video clips as you would for audio clips.
