Hey guys,

I looking at getting myself this AKAI MPD24 pad controller for creating beats. (Using laptop keybpoard now.. :O )

The unit is 2 months old and is available to me for 150$CAN...good deal?

Just wondering what you guys think of this product and if it works well with Live.

i think you can get a better deal for that if it's used.. anyways, I had it and sold it.. it works fine but i i think their are other better pads out there.. I actually liked the padkontrol's feeel better.. even better and what i use now is maschine.. who would've known NI would make such great feeling pads on their first mpc style controller..

Had a MPD24 and sold it also. I like the pad kontrol better. The MPD's pads have to be hit hard to get full velocity, which hurt my fingers after a while of playing. The PK has very sensitive pads, that can be lightly tapped.

They're all right, they have a good mix of faders/knobs/pads but the pads on it are pretty annoying and not very sensitive.
I would suggest saving up more and getting a padkontrol or maschine

I'll admit that I don't know much about any of these pad controllers.

I'm looking for something small and portable to bring with me everywhere I go for jam sessions and gigs. From what you guys have said about the "feel" of the pads on the MPD I know for sure I won't like it. I definitely want something that has good variant velocity.

I've been a drummer for almost 20 years now and I've never had the chance nor money to play around with this type of controller. Now that I've had time to play with Live 8 I realize that if I really want to create some good beats I'd need a good pad.

Ultimately, I'd get either drum triggers or simply a nice electronic drum kit (Yamaha,Roland) for playing/creating my own beats, but because of priority, time and money issues I simply need something simple.

So with this said, everyone agrees that the padkontrol or maschine is the best way to go? Obviously, I'm looking for something used with a limited budget.

tons of screws and be careful you don't damage the midi connector cables.

I have an AKAI MPD24, and it sucked until I did this mod to it. Now I use it a lot more, but it's stupid that you have to do this to make the pads even playable, so I would probably go for the Padkontrol, since it seems to have better pads.

Also I'm a drummer too, and you have to think a whole different way when you you play beats on a pad controller, so it might take a while to get used to it, but you should be fine.
