I heard this from a local sound equipment consultant, anybody hear about this?

Actually, they were in negotiations to acquire GM - until they found out that "GM" didn't stand for "general MIDI".

I suppose it's possible, but I would think that Akai, Novation, and Serato would be more than a little annoyed. As would all the Ableton users who might well now have to start using dongles.

I heard Propellerhead bought Ableton!!!!


One stupid rumor deserves another.

For a while M-Audio (part of Digidesign/Avid), distributed Ableton in North America until Ableton opened their NY office.

There were some deals available from this partnership such as a bundle deal with the FW410 interface with Live. BUt there was recently a deal with a Waves package and Live, doesn't mean that Waves are taking over ...

I bought Ableton Live ages ago.

it's quite good, I'd recommend it.
