clips defaulting to 120 BPM again, in a 151 BPM set

This is happening to me again with the latest Live update.
Clips recorded into a 151 BPM set say that their tempo is 120 BPM. The warping button is on, but the clips have no warp markers in them. Just using the clip envelope for volume automation.
There is warbling in the clips.
To make the clips set the correct BPM I have to turn warping off, then turn it back on.

version 8.1 introduced a new file format, so if you are opening a set made with a version prior to that you may have some problems.
If this is happening in a new set you may need to re-analyze the clip.

this "bug" (that's what i'm calling it) has cropped up in every version of Live 8.
when it happens, out of nowhere it seems, a clip will suddenly sound like its warbling. i'll look at it and discover that it says 120BPM. again every single clip in this set was recorded into this set, which is 151bpm. (i don't move clips from one set to another, because you can't change the tempo of a cello without it sounding like derriere)
what is extra annoying about it is that i hardly use the features of warping at all. i only turn warp on in a clip to have control over the volume.
the "fix" is to turn the warp button off, and then on. this makes the clip 151bpm and the warbling disappears. however, you lose your volume envelope (although i do this so much now that i've learned to copy and paste the volume envelope elsewhere to "save" it)
this is all such a bother that now i'm now putting my volume controls in the tracks of the arrangement. the plus of this: i don't ever have to worry about warp messing up my audio. but it makes the arrangements feel messy and negates one of the things that made me start using Ableton as a DAW (the ability to edit volume at the clip level so you can move the clip around freely in your arrangement).
as a result of this i have a feature request:
- allow volume editing of clips without having to turn on warp

one solution would be to turn the auto warping off in the preferences>record-warp-launch menu.
then you wouldn't be able to use the clip envelopes, but you could do one of the following.
1. use the envelope for the whole channel in the arrangement view, or
2. set up dummy midi clips to control the track volume for the audio clip.
here's a link to the tutorial for option 2. >>

hope this helps!

thanks for the tip tim.
i use automation all over the place onstage, its a great tool. but my studio usage is a little different.
when i'm arranging a song, i'm moving clips around all over the place, into different tracks. we're talking 50-100 clips per song, each with their idiosyncratic volume settings. i want to control the volume at the clip level, not the track level.
besides, turning warp off in each individual clip, would achieve the same thing...but doesn't address the issue that this is bug that needs fixing.

I wonder if anyone knows if this is fixed in 8.1 ?
Might be a reason to upgrade. I still haven't found an 8.1 change log.

We're still waiting for the change log.
In the meantime grab the 8.1.1beta it fixes some major bugs.

what bugs exactly? i see a change log from 8.1 to 8.1.1 but not for 8.09 to 8.1
i'm worried about upgrading because of the new file format issue and i've learned my lesson...never upgrade in the middle of a major project

You still lose the ability to use clip envelopes in Live 8.1 with warping off. I've never come across this 120bpm bug, but if it's there, it sucks.

This happens to me too in Live 8.1.3 on OSX 10.5.8. Thanks for the fix. It works for me !
To speed things up, you can select all clips, and do a global "unwarp>warp" instead of doing it per track. For a big DJ set it can take several seconds for the fix to take place (watch the progress bar at the bottom left of the screen), during which don't click anything: it seems to interrupt the process if you do, leaving some tracks still displaying 120bpm. The good news is that the timing of warps seems to work regardless of the wrong (120bpm) clip speed display.
